The power of defining your life purpose

I want to share with you a single event that is pretty much the reason why I started my coaching business. And it happened exactly one year ago in July 2015.

I started working with a life coaching in June and she invited me to attend a workshop called Power Tools for Living. Why not I thought? What can it hurt? I was feeling kind of lost in overwhelm: being a mom, business owner, co-founder of Forth, wife, friend, semi-yoga, you get it….lots of doing, but little direction. Doing for doing sake.

I went to the workshop with no expectations and walked out with a life purpose and key words that gave me the power to make strong assertive decisions about my life, brand and business.

Through a series of a few simple questions the workshop leaders revealed what excuses were getting in my way (bet you got ’em too: time, money, busy, guilt, food, wine, busy again) and reframed my intentions towards what was most meaningful to me, which, at the time was peace.

look, act and think like yourself

I craved peace in my life, in my to-do list, in my mind and once that idea was revealed and laid out on the table, I was able to see how I consistently got in my own way, preventing me from what I so desperately craved.

I began attending weekly mediations at my local Buddhist temple. I started going to Core Power Yoga. I read literally all of Brene Brown’s books, and began to weave moments of silence into my day that weren’t there before because I was too busy doing.

The biggest take away for me was that I was doing instead of being. Refocusing my energy on being who I truly was, and what I craved helped me take back my ideas of the way things should be and instead created my future in the way I intended it to be.

Fast forward a year and I am in that same life coach program training to become a certified life coach.

Peace served me for an entire year. I refocused, recalibrated and set intentions around that way of being. In my coach training program we did the same exercise a few weeks ago and my life purpose changed. And that’s actually super awesome and revealing. I had outgrown my life purpose, it served me to get me to where I am today, and now I am reaching higher and towards a more lofty intention of being fully expressed in my life. My life’s purpose is to be a full-expression of me, the good, the bad, the graceful and the graceless. All that creativity bundled up into one human being is going to be awesome!

Sound a little bit out there? A little bit woo-woo? It is, I get it. How am I going to do it? I don’t know. That’s not the point. The point is to experience daily life with the intention to be fully expressed in everything I do. Do I succeed? Not all the time. I’m a work in progress. I’ll keep you updated:)
