What feeds my soul?
I was recently stopped in my tracks by 2 images I saw on Pinterest, one that said, “Stop the glorification of busy” the other, “You don’t get a gold star for being busy.”
I was struck by how closely the concept of being busy tugs at my heart. If you know me, you know I have 4 kids: 2 of my own and 2 step sons. That in itself counts for busy. I am a business owner = busy. I try to be a good sister, wife and friend. I try to go to Zumba twice a week, I try to feed my family good food, I try to promote my business. So where do *I* come in?
I believe that everyone needs something that feeds their soul, that’s the *I*. Something, outside of work, outside of family, friends and kids that makes you part of something bigger. For me, my soul feeding *something* is Forth Chicago. Being part of a community, and specifically a community of women, and even more specifically a community of female business owners who, like me, are learning how to live life through their business and relationships with energy, strength, gusto and purpose. I would hate to say “balance life and business” because I don’t believe there is such a thing.
This fall we hosted our 7th Forth Chicago event with a group of female entrepreneurs who not only have their own business, but also have a passion project on the side. Busy – yes. Passionate – double yes. Or as Kelly Allison says, “double woot!!”
Here are just a few images from the evening’s prep where Kelly and Julie’s passion for savories bites and sweet dreamy goodness shines, and how Kelly Connelly’s love for vintage table settings sets the tone of the evening, and those handmade liberty napkins by Bess Ser are so quirky and fun. The full photo gallery is on Forth Chicago here.
I couldn’t be more in love with the commitment that my co-founders, Kelly, Julie and our fantastically intelligent, witty and caring interns, Natalie Pavela, Clare Johnson and Katie Kenney give to Forth.
If you want to see more photos from the evening you can check this out. If you want to see how Kelly and Julie made these and many more yummy finger foods the recipes are here. And if you are a female entrepreneur and would like to join our community, we host 3 invitation only events each year and are accepting new invitees starting in the Spring of 2015.
I’d love to hear what you are passionate about and how does that make you busy in the best way possible?
